Warriors down Longhorns for third straight win to open season

Okarche dominated Dover last Friday, 83-29 en route to the team’s third straight win to open the season.

The Warriors cruised to a 25-3 lead after the first eight minutes followed by a 23-7 run in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 48-10 advantage. Dover bounced back to cut the lead by three points in the third, but Okarche closed strong with a 21-2 run to seal the victory.

The Warriors featured five players in double digits, including sophomore Joseph Schaefer who led the way with 11 points. He also pulled down four rebounds. Seniors Cris Avila, Kalen McCarthy and Lathen Stover as well as junior Kaleb Harris all chipped in 10 points apiece. Senior Kendon Brown also scored eight points and led the team with eight rebounds.

Okarche dominated the glass, out-rebounding Dover 49-32. Stover grabbed six boards while Avila, McCarthy, freshman Evan Endres and Schaefer all pulled down four. Avila led the way in helpers with six assists while McCarthy, Harris, Endres and freshman Trenton Neiderer all finished with two.

The Warriors drilled nine of 37 shots from three-point range in the game, including two apiece from Avila and Neiderer. Okarche also went 8-for-13 from the free throw line.
On the defensive end, McCarthy led the way with six steals. Brown and Endres each finished with three.

Okarche continues its season next Tuesday in Oklahoma City as the team hits the road to take on Harding Fine Arts Academy. The Warriors return home after Thanksgiving break, hosting Dale on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.
