CORDELL – The eighth-ranked Warriors cruised to their sixth straight win Tuesday night, knocking off Class 2A Cordell, 47-25 on the road.
Okarche held the Blue Devils to single digits in all four quarters during the victory, including just one point in the first eight minutes. Cordell scored just seven points in the second, eight in the third and nine in the fourth.
The Warriors finished with five players scoring at least seven points and two players in double digits. Senior Kassidy Rother led the way with 11 points while junior Marlo Hunt scored 10. Freshman Karsyn Vallerand and sophomore Madison Owens each scored eight points while senior Jade Owens chipped in seven. Junior Raegan Robinson also had three points.
Okarche shot 36-percent from the field and went 4-for-16 from three-point range. The team shot 7-for-17 from the free-throw line as well. Hunt went 3-for-9 from long range while Robinson went 1-for-2. Hunt also led the team with four assists while senior Cydnie Hull finished with one.
The team scored 13 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second, 13 in the third and seven down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors dominated the boards, pulling down 33 total rebounds with 13 coming on the offensive end. Vallerand and Hunt led the team with six boards apiece while the Owens sisters each pulled down five. Vallerand, Hunt and Rother each grabbed five offensive boards while freshman Savannah Mingus grabbed two.
Okarche finished with nine steals overall and eight deflections while turning the ball over just 13 times. Rother and the Owens sisters each finished with two takeaways while freshman Adyson Arms, Robinson and Mingus each stole one each. Vallerand also finished with a block.
Okarche now sits at No. 8 in the rankings after its latest surge. The team’s run dates back to Nov. 30 with wins over Oklahoma Christian Academy, Class B Shidler, Class B No. 2 Lomega, Class 2A No. 13 Cashion, Class 2A Watonga and Cordell.
The Warriors finish up the first semester against Oklahoma Christian Academy at Okarche this Friday night at 6:30 p.m. Okarche won the first meeting between the two teams on Nov. 30, 48-34.
