Warriors get off to slow start, but adjust and cruise to blowout victory over Terriers

THOMAS – No. 9 Okarche got off to a slow start, but after a 20-point second quarter, the Warriors didn’t look back.

Okarche led 9-8 after the first eight minutes before outscoring the Thomas-Fay-Custer. 20-4 in the second quarter for a 29-12 lead at halftime. The Warriors kept it rolling after the break, using a 32-11 run over the final 16 minutes to seal the the 61-23 victory, team’s fourth in its last five games.

11 Warriors scored in the game, including junior Rachel McDowell who led the way with 10 points. Seniors Kassidy Rother and Jade Owens each scored nine points, junior Raegan Robinson scored eight and freshman Karsyn Verllerand scored six. Junior Marlo Hunt, sophomore Madison Owens and freshman Savannah Mingus each scored four points, freshman Adyson Arms scored two points and freshman Mackenzie Schneiter scored one.

Okarche went 9-for-16 from the free-throw line and hit four three-pointers in the win. Rother drilled two from three-point range while Jade Owens and Robinson each hit one.

The Terriers were held to just six made shots from the field and eight points from the free-throw line. They hit three shots from long range.

The win marked the second straight for the Warriors coming off a third-place finish in the 2019 Three Rivers Conference Tournament. The team has just four games remaining on the regular season schedule.

Okarche continues the final stretch of the season Tuesday at home, hosting Class 2A Hennessey. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
