A man who was arrested on a DUI complaint nearly hit an oncoming car before an officer could stop him, a police report shows.

Charles Fuller, 32, of El Reno, caught the attention of Okarche Officer Nick Countryman when he noticed Fuller’s vehicle almost strike a curb on N. Country Club Road around 1 a.m. Jan. 27.

As Countryman followed, he witnessed Fuller swerve over the center line and nearly strike an oncoming vehicle. The officer stopped Fuller and noticed he smelled of alcohol.

“When Charles (Fuller) exited his vehicle, I noted he was using the door of the truck for support,” the report states.

Fuller failed the horizontal gaze test and was so unsteady on his feet an officer stopped the second test for the man’s safety.

“After test number two (the walk-and-turn) I terminated the test for his safety due to Charles being unsteady on his feet and I did not want him to get hurt,” the report reads.
Fuller refused to take the breathalyzer test. Countryman searched Fuller’s car and found a .45 caliber handgun within “arms’ reach” of the driver’s console. The gun was loaded with six rounds in the magazine along with two other magazines in the vehicle. Fuller did not have a concealed carry permit. He was arrested and taken to Canadian County Jail.
