Okarche kicks off slow pitch with 10-0 win over Calumet

Okarche’s softball team started the season off on the right foot, picking up a 10-0 win over Calumet in the season opener Monday.

The Warriors racked up 10 hits while holding Calumet to just five in the four-inning run-rule win. Coach Brandon Treece’s team scored three runs in the first inning, two runs in the second and five runs in the fourth.

Four players finished with four hits for Okarche, including Hayley Coffey, Jadyn Arms, Ady Arms and Kammie Benson. Coffey went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Jadyn Arms went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Ady Arms also went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Benson went 2-for-3 with one run driven in.

Katie Bomhoff and Chloe Wanger each picked up a hit as well and combined to drive in three runs for the Warriors.

Bomhoff pitched all four innings from the circle for Okarche, picking up the shutout win with 33 strikes thown against 17 batters. She also recorded three strikeouts and gave up just five hits.

Okarche continues its season this weekend in the 2019 Ringwood Spring Swing Tournament before returning home after Spring Break to host Hunton at 4:30 on March 25.
