Ryan McIlvain was sworn in as Okarche’s newest board of education member Monday night and he’s not wasting any time on his campaign promises.

“I received PDF’s of the board minutes (for past months) and I have financials to look through and study,” McIlvain said. “I’ve got a lot of homework to do.”

McIlvain promised to bring a business perspective to the board as did his father-in-law Raymond Muggenborg.

“Everything he did, for his kids and his neighbor’s kids and for the community, it was to make sure it was going to be OK down the road,” McIlvain said. “That’s what I’m drawing from.”

McIlvain is not wasting time educating himself about the finer points of serving on a school board. He has 15 months to complete an Oklahoma State School Board Association 12-hour training. McIlvain will start May 4.

“I want to get it going so that I can contribute and do what I said I would do,” he said.
McIlvain said he was well received by his fellow board members Monday night.

“Everyone was gracious and accommodating. I’m very optimistic. Everyone on the board is highly intelligent and highly capable,” he said.
