Kalen McCarthy finished out his high school career this winter as regular in the Okarche boys basketball team’s rotation, helping lead the Warriors to the Class A state tournament semifinals last winter.

McCarthy is ready for the next stage in life as he prepares for college and a major in mechanical engineering. He has many hobbies outside of basketball, especially hunting, and decided exactly what his favorite moment as a Warrior was over the last four years. He sat down last winter for an interview with sports editor Trey Hunter. Here is what he had to say:

Q: What is your favorite hobby outside of basketball and why?

A: My favorite hobbies outside of basketball are hunting and hanging out with my friends. I enjoy hunting whether it be duck, deer, dove, etc. because it gives me a type of thrill that gets me going and being that it requires a lot of time and work, the reward is amazing. I love hanging out with my friends because no matter what we do, it is always a great and fun time.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school and why?

A: My favorite class is anatomy. I find anatomy interesting and intriguing because I am basically learning what I am made of and what goes on in my body.

Q: Have you chosen what you want to study in college? Why?

A: I am attending the University of Oklahoma. I want to major in mechanical engineering. I think a job in this field would never have dull moments and it is something I could wake up and do everyday with a smile on my face.

Q: Who would you say is your hero? It could be a family member, athlete, etc. and why?

A: My idol is my dad. Words cannot describe how much he does for me and my family, and he seems to always to be in a good, fun mood. I strive every day to be just like him as I get older in the way that he treats people, his work ethic, and him being an all around great guy.

Q: What is your favorite moment playing for the basketball team in your career and why?

A: My favorite moment has to be beating Hennessey in the three rivers conference championship. Being that they are our rivals and we have so much history, it was amazing to watch the way that we won and it made it extra special that it was for conference.
