Services for Gloria Irene Perkins, 95, former Altus resident, will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019, 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Okarche. Burial with military honors will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home in Minco.
Gloria Irene Perkins was born on February 22, 1924 at Waco, Texas to Sterling Simpson and Mary Alda (Batey) Childers. She died on Monday, June 21, 2019 at the Cimarron Nursing Center in Kingfisher at 95 years of age.
Gloria was raised in Bell County, West Central Texas. She attended Scott and White Nursing College in Waco, Texas after High School and later served in the United States Army during WWII as a registered nurse, meeting her future husband while treating him for wounds.
She married Claud Edwin Perkins on December 12, 1945 at El Paso, Texas, both being military officers, they lived all over the world, settling in Arlington, TX then to Cordell, Oklahoma and Altus in 1969.
Gloria was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus and worked in Nursing until her retirement in 1971.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, husband Claud on October 21, 2003, brothers; Sterling Childers Jr. and Joe Wayne Childers
She is survived by her daughters; Julia Alda Crawford and husband Mickey of Okarche; Gloria Irene Devol Jr. and husband Dale of Athens, Ohio; Brother; Gail Childers of New Jersey; Cousins; Carl Childers and partner Jose Delucci of Arlington, Texas; Sue Childers of Arlington, Texas; 1 granddaughter; Ashley Alda Devol of Columbus, Ohio.
