Warriors pick up just one win, but gauge where team stands midway through season

SOFTBALL: 2019 NINNEKAH TOURNAMENT

CHICKASHA – Okarche lost three out of four games in the 2019 Ninnekah Tournament at the Chickasha Sports Complext last weekend.

The Warriors’ win came against Rush Springs, 10-5, on Saturday after they had already lost to Southeast and Rush Springs Friday. Okarche capped the tournament wit a 13-1 loss to Wayne to move to 4-7 so far this season.

Coach Brandon Treece’s team scored its 10 runs on 13 hits in the win over Rush Springs. Karsyn Vallerand led the way at the plate with three hits, including a double and a triple with three RBI. Chloe Wanger finished with two hits, including a double and two runs scored while Marly Hill, Gabi Battista and Ady Arms all racked up two hits apiece, including a three-RBI double by Arms.

Vallerand picked up the win in the circle, giving up five earned runs on five hits and eight walks with seven strikeouts over six innings. The threw 132 pitches, 72 for strikes.

Southeast 16
Okarche 3

The Warriors faced a tough challenge against Southeast, falling by 13 runs in a five-inning run-rule.

Southeast racked up its 16 runs on 13 hits, including five extra-base hits off Vallerand. The Spartans also drew nine walks and struck out just twice against Okarche’s sophomore hurler. The Warriors scored their three runs on six hits, including RBI from Wanger and Batista. Hayley Coffey, Hannah Goble, Emma Stover and Arms also finished with base knocks in the loss.

Rush Springs 10

The Warriors fell just short of knocking off Rush Springs in the teams’ first meeting of the tournament Friday. Okarche racked nine runs on 15 hits, but it wasn’t enough as Rush Springs crushed a walk-off homer to hand Treece’s team its second loss on Day 1 of the tournament.

Wayne 13
Okarche 1

Okarche suffered a blowout loss to close out the tournament, giving up 13 runs on seven hits in a three-inning loss to Wayne. The Warriors picked up just one hit – a first-inning triple by Coffey who later scored on a ground out by Wanger.

The Warriors continue their season Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. Oklahoma Bible Academy. They hit the road again Friday for a matchup at Pioneer and return home next Thursday to host cross-town rival Kingfisher.
