With Town Hall closed and the Okarche emergency proclamation remaining in place, town trustees urge people to call or email if they have any needs or questions during the pandemic.

At the Okarche Town Trustees meeting Monday, Mayor Jeff Sadler said people should continue to take precautions as COVID-19 cases continue to increase.

There was one death in Canadian County reported by the Oklahoma State Department of Health Wednesday and there were 24 confirmed cases in Canadian County. There have been 23 deaths statewide. No cases have been reported in Kingfisher County Wednesday morning.

Okarche declared an emergency that took effect at noon, Thursday, March 19.
“You can try to maintain your limit, your interaction as much as possible so we can get past this as soon as possible so we can get back to normal. That would be great,” Sadler said.

“I mean everybody is dealing with it. It is a tough time for everyone, the police department they are open and helping in anyway we can. The town hall is closed to the public. But you can contact us by phone, drop-box, email, you name it.”

Trustee Joe Frisby urged people to keep their shopping close to home.

“Especially in these trying times please buy local,” Frisby said.

Local businesses are still open, Sadler added.

“There are all kinds of drive-thru and pickup options available,” Sadler said.

“If you have any questions or concerns or need anything let us know we are happy to help in any way we can,” Sadler said.

The state of emergency could affect opening of the town swimming pool.

The big and small pools have been repainted and new awnings have been added. But health and safety concerns come first, Sadler said.

“We want to keep everybody as healthy as possible so we can open because we’ve made some improvements,” Sadler said.

He said the city will announce an opening date soon.

“It will be great if we can get back to normal,” Sadler said.
