As more cases of COVID-19 are being reported in the state, Okarche police are urging people to stay home and take extra precautions.

Police Chief Forrest Smith posted a message to residents Friday.

“I come to you today as your Chief of Police and ask that you help us fight this invisible assailant, by staying home and following the CDC guidelines for social distancing.” Smith said.

Three cases of the virus were reported Friday in Kingfisher County and 32 cases are in Canadian County, the Oklahoma Department of Health reported.

One death has been reported in Canadian County. The death toll statewide Saturday stood at 42 people.

Statewide, there are 1,159 cases and 316 people hospitalized.

The average age of those who have tested positive is 56 years-old.

Smith reports: “The message has been conveyed countless times. Please Stay Home. I realize this can be cumbersome and unexciting. However, if we are going to beat this, then we must play by the rules. If we move the virus moves. It will declare victory.”

“So far, we have been fortunate, but if we allow ourselves to become complaisant as this virus attacks our neighbors, it will soon be knocking on our door. We are not immune to this pandemic.”

Officers and staff in Okarche are working with the local schools by delivering and handing out the Chromebooks.

All other requests for property, papers, books, Chromebooks, can be made to the appropriate school.

“We pride ourselves as Warriors, and yet sometimes Warriors retreat and allow evil to pass. Let’s support our doctors, nurses, and first responders, by staying home. A special Thank You to all the men and women working as essential employees keeping our world turning!” Smith reported

“We will get through this alone together,” Smith said.
