Another place for outdoor fun is being built in Okarche.
A sand volleyball court is under construction at the Okarche park at Iowa Avenue and 6th Street. The court will be next to the town swimming pool.
The court is nearing completion. Poles are being manufactured to be installed for the new net.
The court will open within the next two weeks.
“We’ve got a lot of eager kiddos and adults who are excited to open up,” said Kelli Neuenschwander, manager of the swimming pool.
She said the pool opened Friday to a lot of happy people who were ready to swim despite cold water and some cloudy skies.
“We had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend,” Neuenschwander said.
The pool capacity will be 60 people at one time under current guidelines due to the coronavirus.
There were about 45 people who swam daily over the first weekend, she said.
Neuenschwander said she expects the pool and volleyball court will provide local people with much-needed outdoor recreation this summer.
Precautions are being taken due to COVID-19, she said.
“We are very excited that we have been able to open,” Neuenschwander said.
