Canadian County Sheriff Chris West says he is looking for volunteers to serve on a Canadian County “Sheriff’s Posse.”  West said he is interested in volunteers who would be willing to assist the sheriff and his deputies in a broad range of missions, including in times of local crisis, or state of emergency.

“This is something I was asked about doing by voters during my bid for sheriff in 2016, but other priorities have taken precedence.  I believe now is a great time to put it together,” West said.

West says he intends to use the posse to support local communities, and believes the posse could also serve as a rapid response force of ciizens who could be called upon “in a minutes notice” to answer the call to aid in safeguarding lives and property, as well as the constitutional rights of innocent law abiding citizens of Canadian County.

Sheriff West said citizens have reached out the last few weeks offering assistance.  Many of these calls were from former and retired police officers, members of the armed forces, and everyday ordinary citizens who just want to do something to help protect and serve their communities, West said.  West said he hopes volunteers with a broad range of diversity in skill & abilities, and race & gender will be interested in becoming Sheriff’s Posse members.

“Our county is blessed to have incredible citizens, and I’m really excited about this opportunity to bring people together to help each other. I’m anticipating a significant response from the community,” West said.

Canadian County residents who are interested in volunteering to serve as a member of the “Sheriff’s Posse” can complete an application on the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office website located at https://ccsheriff.net/sheriffs-posse.php

Candidates will be contacted once the application has been received and processed.
