Okarche Town Trustees will wait another month to take up any issues with regulating medical marijuana businesses that might open in town.

Issues related to growing, processing and selling medical marijuana were tabled by The Okarche Town Trustees at a Monday night regular meeting.

Okarche does not currently have a medical marijuana dispensary.

Last month, trustees started to look into ordinances that would regulate such businesses.

Okarche’s town attorney, Bryce Kennedy, told trustees Monday night that the Okarche Planning Commission needs to revisit some of the proposed ordinances.

One issue is where to allow medical marijuana dispensaries in town. The recommendation from the planning commission is to allow dispensaries in specifically zoned commercial areas.

Growers would be allowed only in agriculturally-zoned areas and processors in industrial use areas.

The recommendation is to allow dispensaries in a C-2 commercial zone for highway retail but not in C-1, or the central business district.

Bryce told trustees he expects to bring the issues back to the table at a July monthly meeting.
