Okarche looking for police officer

There is an opening in Okarche for a police officer.

Okarche has four full-time police officers and needs five full-time officers to work in town, said Police Chief Forrest Smith.

Smith hopes to fill the position in early August.

One of the town’s full-time police officers recently was placed on reserve status to pursue other career opportunities. Okarche has three reserve officers.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old and have been certified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education Training, CLEET.

The pay scale starts at $17 per hour for a CLEET certified officer.

Applicants should also be U.S. citizens and possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
A high school diploma or GED is required.

Those who apply should not have any felony convictions or convictions for crimes of moral turpitude or domestic violence, nor have been convicted of a DUI or reckless driving in the past five years.

A background check and fingerprint clearance is required.
