Okarche’s swimming pool closed Sept. 9 for the season.
The pool was open in May after town trustees considered whether to have a swimming season during the pandemic.
Trustees voted to keep it open for a local activity through the summer. Safety precautions were taken for COVID-19 and the capacity was reduced to about half the number of people normally allowed.
Cooler, rainy weather moved in last week, and town officials decided to close for the year.
“We have decided to close the pool for the season a few days early due to cooler weather. We would like send out a huge thank you to everyone for coming to swim this season, being supportive of the changes we had to make in order to open under the COVID-19 guidelines and your continued excitement and sweet comments of the updates of our community pool,” said pool manager Kelli Neuenschwander.
“It has been a fantastic season,” Neuenschwander said.
The pool provided local youth with a much-needed summer activity during the pandemic, town officials said. The pool was repainted and a new awning installed before the opening in May this year.
“We were so thankful we were able to stay open as long as we could,” Neuenschwander said.
