Sports in Okarche will move indoors to the hardwood as softball and baseball has ended for the season and basketball practice has started for the girls and boys teams.
The Warriors boys basketball season starts Nov. 6 against Preston, a powerhouse in Class A basketball from the eastern side of the state.
Coach Aaron West is in his second season in Okarche. Aaron West follows in his father Ray West’s footsteps. Ray West coached the boys team in Okarche for 25 years. Aaron West was an assistant under his father, and Aaron also coached at Lomega before taking over back in Okarche.
The team was able to participate in a summer basketball camp, he said. Aaron West is already looking toward the competition. His team finished last season with a 15-14 record.
“It will be a big test on the road early and right after that will will face ranked Lomega and a ranked Calumet. It is a tough schedule early.
Returning starters for the boys are Joe Schaefer, Logan Kroener, and Evan Endres.
The basketball season ended early in March during the COVID-19 pandemic.
