Okarche Public Schools will have a day of virtual learning for seventh through to 12th grades as students will stay home on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3 since voters will be in the building, Superintendent Josh Sumrall reports.

Voters from the public will use the high school and junior high building for the election. Okarche Schools have been in-person since Aug. 13 without a virtual day of learning from home yet this fall.

The elementary school, for grades pre-kindergarten to sixth will have school as usual, in-person on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Sumrall reports, “Please note that on Tuesday, November 3rd (Election Day), our Junior High and High School (7th-12th Grade) students will not attend school in-person and will have virtual classes instead. Due to the High School building being used as a voting precinct, we feel it will be best to not have students at that building while several people will be visiting to vote. The Junior High and High School teachers will have instructions for students on how their virtual class will be conducted for that day. The elementary (PreK-6th Grade) will have school as usual. If you have any questions please contact an administrator at school.”

The school district took fall break Oct. 16 to Oct. 19. returning Tuesday, Oct. 20.

We have made it to the end of the first 9 weeks of the 2020-2021 school year! I hope everyone is enjoying your Fall Break! Every single person certainly deserves the break for all of your hard work and determination to start and continue school as normal as possible this year. I would like to thank everyone for your patience and understanding through all of the changes and day-to-day unknowns, and we look forward to starting the second half of the semester next week,” Sumrall reports.
