Okarche is under an ice storm warning in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service reports.
And there will be no class for Okarche Public Schools Tuesday.
“With more freezing rain expected over night and temperatures staying in the high 20s, Okarche Public Schools will cancel for Tuesday, October 27th,” Superintendent Josh Sumrall reports.
Holy Trinity Catholic School is also closed Tuesday.
“This will count as a snow day, no virtual learning required.”
A decision will be made Tuesday afternoon for Wednesday. Sumrall reports.
Periods of significant icing will last through Wednesday with accumulations of up to a half of an inch, the weather service reports. Travel is discouraged.
Early Tuesday temperatures will drop with a mix of sleet after 4 a.m. and a low of 27 degrees. North winds will gust up to 25 mph with a 70% chance of precipitation. A tenth of an inch of ice is possible.
The high temperature Tuesday will be 33 with a north wind gusting around 24 mph. More ice accumulation is expected. The freezing rain will not let up Wednesday but sunshine will return by the afternoon Thursday and Friday, the weather service reports. Saturday and Sunday temperatures will be in the 60s with sunny skies.
