Grady Cross is known for bringing his brand of red dirt country. Since 1994 his music manifested in the band Cross Canadian Ragweed and continues now in Cross, Rags and Young.
He left the road and touring to open his own venue, Grady’s 66 Pub that has been in business a decade in Yukon, providing a State Highway 66 venue for more Americana, rock and roll and red dirt country.
And now comes Grady’s Green Room Music Shop.
From guitars, amplifiers, to classic rock albums and posters, the room at 440 W. Main is open with records, CDs, cassettes. T-shirts and more.
In the record room are posters of Jim Morrison of The Doors and Alice Cooper.
This red dirt country man, Cross, who is now 46 years-old, likes Alice Cooper, he said.
“As I’ve gotten older, I just love Alice Cooper,” Cross said about the 1970s shock rocker.
“The older I get, Alice Cooper and Motorhead just keep getting better,” Cross said.
The music store is now open Tuesdays through Fridays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It was the site of the original post office in Yukon.
“Now we have a record store, a music store, guitar accessories, guitars, new and used. We are always buying used records and gear. We also have shirts and hoodies and merchandise,” Cross said.
He has a collection of rock posters, many reprints of originals. His partner Chris Winkler is helping him with the music shop.
Cross was on the road touring for 16 years, he said. “We traveled everywhere you know.
When I got off the road I still wanted to be involved in music so when I got off the road I purchased the pub called The 50-Yard Line, 10 years ago. I just wanted to be surrounded by music and still see my buddies. I wanted to show Yukon what is out there music-wise,” Cross said.
The past year has been tough in the pandemic, he said. But he is glad to bring red dirt and Texas country and rock and roll back to the live stage. Acoustic acts play on Sundays.
Bigger name acts like Dale Watson and The Reverend Horton Heat are coming for a June show.
As for the collection of recorded music in Grady’s Green Room, he said, “We have new and used records in here. It kind of goes all over. You’ve got Anthrax to Cody Jinks. It goes all over the board.
