Okarche’s fire station is soon to undergo a renovation.
The town trustees in a Monday, April 26 regular meeting approved a plan for construction.
Trustees voted to award the low bid to Calm Construction, LLC for the Okarche Fire Department Remodel Project. The amount for the project is $235,000.
Mayor Jeff Sadler said the bid was $40,000 less than a previous bid for the work.
“We asked them to make some changes so we could remodel this whole area here so there is additional meeting space than we currently have now for the fire department, and there would be showers so they can decontaminate” Sadler said.
Fire Chief Steve Liebl said the plans keep the integrity of the current building structure the same.
“The roof, everything stayed the same,” Liebl said. “We didn’t really sacrifice any quality.”
The fire station is located at 103 E. Oklahoma Avenue. The renovations will improve safety for firefighters who will be able to store equipment at the fire station, Liebl said. A contract is expected to be signed and approved in the coming weeks.
