At long last, high school basketball season is here.
Okarche’s girls and boys open the regular season Friday vs. Preston. The girls tip off at 6:30 with the boys game to follow.
Both teams have had solid preseason camps according to coaches Aaron West and Haley Mitchel.
The Lady Warriors finished 15-7 last season and return eight key contributors from that team. The Warriors, meanwhile, return four full or part-time starters from a team that compiled a 10-11 record a year ago.
Preston’s boys were 7-14 last season. Okarche edged the Pirates 64-60 in last year’s opener. The Preston girls finished 14-11, including an overtime loss to the Lady Warriors.
Okarche hosts Calumet Tuesday.
