Geraldine “Gerri” Ann (Couchman) Barrow, 80 years of age, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2021, at Sunset Estates after several months of battling health issues. She was born to Archie and Mildred Couchman on June 6th, 1941, in Okeene, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of five girls.
Gerri grew up in Okeene, Oklahoma, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she moved to California to be near family and worked as a nurse’s aid. While living near Simi Valley, California, she met Ronald Vallerand. They were married and had one son, David Vallerand. Gerri moved back to Oklahoma in 1979 where she and David made their home in Blanchard. She met Delmar Barrow while working as a dispatcher for the Blanchard Police Department. They were married on March 2nd, 1981 and were married for 35 years. They made their home in Blanchard until 2015 when they moved to Okarche, Oklahoma, to be closer to David and his family.
Gerri attended nursing school and graduated from Mid-America Vo-Tech with her LPN license. She enjoyed working at Purcell Hospital, Health-Back Home Health and other nursing jobs. She was an avid OU and Thunder fan. She thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports through the years and was at every game that her health allowed. She was a member of Okarche First Baptist Church where she enjoyed worshipping with her church family.
Gerri was preceded in death by her husband Delmar Barrow, her son David Vallerand, her mother and father, and her sisters Alice Hughes, Loraine Hodge, Shirley Guthrie, and Kay Lee.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Addison Newcomb and husband, Matt of Oklahoma City; Jaxon Vallerand and Karsyn Vallerand, and their mother Tonya Vallerand, all of Okarche; dear friends Karen Brown, Cindy Fleming, and Jeanne Deitz, along with nieces, nephews and other family.
The family would like to thank Sunset Estates and Suncrest Hospice for the great care Gerri received while in their care. Services will be held at Okarche First Baptist Church on December 31, 2021 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Okarche Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Huber-Benson Funeral Home in El Reno.
