Florene Jacobs

Florene (Beckner) Jacobs was born at home on January 21, 1931 in Piedmont, Oklahoma to G.W. (Pete) Beckner and Mabel Beckner. She grew up on a farm with her brother, Ralph. Florene attended Piedmont High School and upon graduation she trained at a comprehensive trade school. After completion, Florene worked as a “Kelly Girl” or temp worker for WesBanco Bank and then 7-Eleven where she stayed on in the corporate offices. It was then that she met her husband, Bernard Jacobs, through a mutual friend and began their life in Okarche. Florene and Bernard were married for 49 years, from August 14,1961 to November 5, 2010, until Bernard’s death.

For most of her life, Florene was a dedicated farm wife and homemaker. She was a long-time resident of the town of Okarche and well-known throughout the community. She cared about her community and encouraged civic responsibility. Florene was an excellent seamstress, and she enjoyed making sewing crafts for friends and family. Her love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was evident.

Florene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother. She is survived by her son Steve Jacobs and wife Kelly, and her daughter Carole Ludwig and husband Gary; her grandchildren Nicole Crossley and husband Joe, Justin Ludwig, Lindsey Jacobs and Eric McKenzie, and Mitchell Ludwig; and her great-grandchildren Jude and Ezra Crossley, and Liam and Laura Whitney.
