Okarche School Board President Ryan McIlvain has decided to run for a chance to stay on the board for five more years.

He will face a challenger this year after John Pinkerton filed for the office at the Kingfisher County Election Board.

The filing period for the seat, position 4 on the board, opened Monday, Dec. 4 and ended Wednesday, Dec. 6 at the Kingfisher County Election Board.

McIlvain and Pinkerton, both of Okarche, are the only two people to file, an election board official confirmed Thursday.

McIlvain said he wants to continue his work to keep the district “great.”

“After countless community members asking me to run for reelection and considerable thought and prayer, I have decided to run for reelection to the Okarche School Board in order to ensure that Okarche’s outstanding schools continue to best serve the students, teachers, faculty, and community,” McIlvain wrote in a statement about his decision.

“Keep Okarche great!” McIlvain wrote.

The five-year term for position 4 on the board is open. School Board President Ryan McIlvain is the current position 4 board member. Board vice president Robert Anderson currently serves in position 5, with clerk Jarrod Mueggenborg, position 1, deputy clerk Heather Nance in position 2, and parliamentarian Joe Alig, position 3.

The election date is Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
