Kingfisher teenager killed in traffic accident

Counselors available Monday at high school

A 15-year-old girl who was a passenger in a car died late Friday, March 15 in a Kingfisher County accident, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Kinlee Marie Denton died in the accident, Kingfisher High School officials reported.

A funeral service was scheduled for 12 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at the Kingfisher High School gymnasium under direction of Wilson Funeral Home’s Kingfisher office.

John Harris, the principal of Kingfisher High School posted the following on Facebook:

“As many of you already know, it is with great sorrow that our high school family is coping with the loss of a student. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends as well as our faculty, staff and the Kingfisher community as a whole.

In order to help our students through this grieving process, counselors will be on hand this morning a Kingfisher High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

When it becomes available, we will provide information about memorial services. Again, please keep the family, friends, our students, staff and entire community in your thoughts and prayers.”

On Facebook, a group called “All About Kingfisher,” reported that counselors would be available at Kingfisher High School Monday where the girl was a student.

“Our hearts go out to the Denton Family and Kingfisher High School students and staff. May peace and comfort find you during this difficult time.

Counselors will be available at the school on Monday from 9:00am to 3:00pm for those in need of support. Our thoughts are with you all.

A meal train has been set up for the family at https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/wlkvd0,” according to the group.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows she was a passenger in a car driven by a 17-year-old boy from Kingfisher about 11:55 p.m. Friday, March 15, on State Highway 33 at N 2920 Road about 6 miles east of Kingfisher.

The name of the boy driving was not released because he is a juvenile, the patrol reported.

A Kingfisher police officer took the boy to Kingfisher Mercy Hospital, and he was taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, the patrol reported.

The girl suffered numerous injuries and Kingfisher Emergency Medical Service took her OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she died at 1:50 p.m. Saturday.

The patrol reports the boy driving and another passenger wore seat belts. The girl who died did not.

A 13-year-old passenger whose name was withheld was taken to OU Children’s Hospital where she was treated and released.

The cause of the single-vehicle accident was under investigation, the patrol reported.

The roadway was dry and skies were clear at the time of the accident.
