LaVerne Marie Meyer Waggoner

LaVerne Marie Meyer Waggoner went to Her Heavenly Home on March 20, 2024 at the age of 89.

She was born at home on January 27, 1935 in Okarche to Henry A. and Mary Bomhoff Meyer and was baptized on February 17, 1935 and confirmed on April 10, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Okarche.

She started school in a 2 Room School House. Grades 1-4 in one room, and 5-8 in another room. She then went to Okarche Public High School through her Senior year. After High School, she went to Oklahoma A&M at Stillwater for a 2 year secretarial course.

It was there where she met the Love of Her Life, Ted John Waggoner of Purcell. After finishing her 2 years of school, she moved back home and got a job with North American Insurance Company.

LaVerne and Ted got married on January 14, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church and moved to a farm southeast of El Reno. They transferred their membership to Trinity Lutheran Church of El Reno on April 14, 1957. There she helped with many events at the church.

Her greatest passion was caring for and loving her family. She was always very involved in her kids’ many activities including 4-H, FFA, and FHA. She and Ted attended and supported numerous school functions. Her devotion to caring for her family was always reflected in her cooking. She dedicated much time and effort into preparing wonderful and elaborate meals. Including the great undertaking of preparing and delivering those meals to the field during harvest. She loved to hear people comment on her wonderful meals and ever so modestly she would reply, “Oh, I just threw something together.” She was well known for her delicious homemade pies with coconut, pecan, and cherry being among the favorites.

LaVerne enjoyed working in her flower beds, sewing beautiful quilts (which won her numerous awards), being with her family, and playing her piano and organ as she loved her Lord.
