Haley Mitchel, who resigned as the Okarche High School girls’ basketball coach in December, resigned her position as an assistant high school principal Monday in Okarche and will take a new job coaching in Kingfisher.
The Okarche School Board on Monday, May 13, unanimously approved Mitchel’s resignation from Okarche.
Superintendent Josh Sumrall said Mitchel has announced her hiring as an assistant in the Kingfisher program.
Sumrall said a new basketball coach has been found for the girls’ team in Okarche, but the name of the next coach has not been released.
Okarche school board members met in executive session Monday night to discuss the position of basketball coach for the girls.
Mitchel resigned late last year after an anonymous email was received by school board members with complaints about the basketball program in Okarche.
The search for a coach is over, and the finalist for the job in Okarche is wrapping up other obligations before an announcement is made, Sumrall said. Sumrall said the district will name the new coach for the girls before the end of May. The last day of school in the district is Thursday, May 16.
