Following the resignation of former coach Haley Mitchel during the last school year, the Okarche School Board will meet Wednesday to consider hiring a new basketball coach as well as a new softball coach.
Softball Coach Skye Tilley, who was also a basketball assistant coach, has resigned in Okarche and announced she is going to be an assistant coach in the Ripley softball program in her hometown, said Okarche Superintendent Josh Sumrall.
The Lady Warriors softball slow pitch season in spring ended with a record of 16-16. in Class 2A.
The Okarche board members have called a special meeting for noon Wednesday, May 29.
The board was expected to meet in executive session to discuss employee resignations, employment of a girls’ basketball coach and teacher, a softball coach and teacher and a special education director for the 2024-2025 school year.
The agenda reads, “discussion and possible action on the employment of a girls’ basketball coach and teacher as a certified employee for the 2024-2025 school year.

The board also discussed an agreement with Edge Sports Fitness for summer strength and conditioning service.
Mitchel resigned as girls’ basketball coach in December, resigned her position as an assistant high school principal Monday in Okarche and will take a new job in Kingfisher. Tilley coached softball in spring 2024.
The Okarche School Board on Monday, May 13, unanimously approved Mitchel’s resignation.
Sumrall said Mitchel announced her hiring as an assistant in the Kingfisher program.
Sumrall said a new basketball coach has been found for Okarche, but the name of the next coach has not been released.
