A former Oklahoma City University Stars women’s basketball coach has been hired to take over the Okarche Lady Warriors program.

Her husband Scott is taking over the Lady Warriors softball teams.

Brett Tahah, a former OCU player, coached the OCU team from April 2020 to 2022, leading the Stars to a 21-14 record.

Scott Tahah takes over the softball team after the resignation of Skye Tilley who took a job as an assistant in her hometown of Ripley.

The Tahahs and their children were introduced to a crowd of basketball and softball players and their families Wednesday, May 29 inside the Okarche High School drama room. Brett Tahah introduced her three young children.

Superintendent Josh Sumrall introduced both coaches Wednesday.

Brett Tahah introduced children Zoey, Maddox and Heston.

“We are very excited to be joining the Okarche community,” Brett Tahah said. “The kids will always be around. We like to make it a family and they are going to consider you their big sisters, they’re going to annoy you, they’re going to love you and hopefully you will love them back,” Brett Tahah said.

She said she only coached on the college level a short while before she missed coaching high school. She has coached high school teams at Elgin and Frontier.

“I’m back at the high school level and excited to get going,” Brett Tahah said as her children ran circles around her on the floor.

She turned it over to her husband from there.

Scott Tahah coached two years at Frontier before being hired as an assistant principal at Marlow where he coached girls’ basketball for a year. He has been an assistant for his wife while she coached at Frontier. Scott has been a middle school principal at Hobart before taking on the Okarche job.

Brett Tahah told the team players their work was about to start.

“Girls, I hope you all are ready to play basketball because high school you have a mini camp on Monday

Okarche’s former girls’ coach Haley Mitchel resigned in late 2023. Softball Coach Skye Tilley resigned at the end of the spring semester.

Brett Tahah will now coach all basketball teams in Okarche schools for grades 5-12. Another assistant coach is expected to be hired for softball and basketball teams.

Sumrall said, “We are excited to have them, lucky to have them.”
