The Okarche Schools band program is looking for a new director.

Russell Harris spent four years bringing back the band program in Okarche.

Now he has a chance to lead a 6A program about 2 miles from his home, said Okarche Schools Superintendent Josh Sumrall.

The Okarche School Board accepted Harris’ resignation at the Monday, June 10, regular monthly meeting. Harris was hired the same night by the Deer Creek School Board as an assistant band director with the Antler Pride Marching Band.

“We wish him (Harris) well,” Sumrall said. “He did a good job for us.”

The band program started with fifth and sixth graders who learned to play their instruments and moved up to the high school grade.

Sumrall will begin a search for a replacement for Harris in Okarche. The job will be posted on the school website and other places.
