Okarche basketball Coach Aaron West’s first state championship in Class A basketball last spring has been followed up with another accomplishment.

West is the Oklahoma Coaches Association Boys Basketball State Coach of the Year

West was named Region Boys Basketball Coach of the Year last March and then Thursday, July 25, West was named as the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s Boys Basketball State Coach of the Year.

West coached the Warriors in 2023-2024 season to their first state basketball championship since 1979.

Okarche beat Caddo 56-38 for the state championship trophy March 3 at the Big House in Oklahoma City. West is looking toward another run for the gold ball for 2024-2025, when the last state basketball tournament games are played at the Jim Norick State Fair Arena that will be demolished after the games.

Aaron West is the son of former Okarche Coach Ray West and Aaron West was a player on the 1997 team that fell short of the championship. Aaron West also coached with his father. Ray West died in 2019.
