Kingfisher County sheriff race decided by narrow margin

Kingfisher County Undersheriff Jonathan Riedlinger was defeated in a runoff with Aaron Pitts for the sheriff’s seat by a narrow margin Tuesday night, Aug. 27, according to unofficial results from the Oklahoma State Election Board.

Results of the Republican sheriff’s runoff showed Pitts with 50.59% of the vote, or 1,157 votes cast, to Riedlinger’s 49.41%, or 1,130 votes, a very narrow margin of victory.

Okarche area residents who live in Kingfisher County went to the polls Tuesday to help the rest of the county voters decide the sheriff’s runoff race between the two Republicans. Former Okarche police chief Forrest Smith lost his bid for sheriff in the Republican primary.

Also in Kingfisher County, for the unexpired term for the county commissioner seat in District 3, Anthony Schwarz defeated Brandi Fuxa. Schwarz had 561 votes, 64.33% and Fuxa had 311 votes, 35.67%.

Fuxa, who works for the Canadian County Commissioners in El Reno, is an Okarche resident. Schwarz is a current foreman in the District 3 in Kingfisher County. Schwarz is also an Okarche resident.

Meanwhile, in Oklahoma City, voters overwhelmingly approved an increase in their hotel tax, and in Piedmont, voters heavily defeated three propositions for streets, municipal buildings and a sports facility.
