David Glover, a former Okarche school superintendent and the current Kingfisher superintendent, has died of cancer, the Kingfisher school district announced Saturday, Sept. 14.
Glover had been the Kingfisher Public Schools superintendent since 2022. He was also a past assistant director of the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association who was in charge of basketball, cross country and golf from 2013 to 2022.
Glover was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2021.
Glover was 65 years old.
He was also a superintendent at Newkirk from 2003 to 2005, Bethel, 2005 to 2011 and in Okarche from 2011 to 2013.
Glvoer also coached in Oklahoma high school basketball at his alma mater, Woodward, as well as at Okeene and Fairview.
On the Kingfisher Public Schools website Saturday were two announcements about his death from the Kingfisher School Board.
“It is with great sadness to inform you of the passing of Mr. Glover. Please keep Mrs. Glover, his daughters, and precious grandkids in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Mr. Glover loved the school, kids, and community and was so proud to be a part of it. As information is received, we will make sure to pass in along to you,” the announcement reads.
The school board also announced on the website that the district was scheduled to be closed Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in observance of Glover’s funeral.
The service was scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Kingfisher APB basketball gym. The Glover family has requested that attendees wear navy blue and gold to honor his memory, the announcement from the district reads.
“We appreciate your understanding during this time of mourning. Our thoughts and condolences are with Superintendent Glover’s family,” the announcement reads.
Services were scheduled under Wilson Funeral Home.
