After Lawson Geheb, Okarche’s freshman softball pitcher, kept Carnegie scoreless through four innings Thursday in the Class A district tournament, the offense got rolling.
Okarche won their first district tournament game Thursday against Carnegie 3-0. They beat Carnegie 5-4 in the second game.
In the first game, it was a grounder from Callie Cramer went under the glove of the third baseman and she reached on the error. Harper White bunted, and the catcher overthrew first first base. Cramer was called out sliding into third base, but the call was overruled by the home plate umpire.
Lawson Geheb got two more strikeouts in the top of the second inning and a third one for the game in the top of the third. That brought her total for the year to 108 Ks for the freshman Okarche pitcher. She added to her total with a strikeout in the top of the sixth and another one in the top of the seventh, After the second game Thursday, her strikeout season total stood at 117.
In the bottom of the fifth, Lawson Geheb doubled to left field. Callie Cramer singled and Chesney Black, who went in as a baserunner for Geheb, scored.
The Lady Warriors led Carnegie 3-0 in the top of the seventh inning. Carnegie’ K Tahkofper singled to lead off the inning. Geheb struck out the next batter, K Bearbow, and the game ended when Scout Payne field a pop up in foul territory.
Meanwhile, Okarche’s baseball team won the best two out of three games Thursday over Geronimo, 22-0 and then 18-0, and with the district tournament championship in check will host a regional tournament.
In the second game against Carnegie Thursday, Geheb gave up seven hits and four runs over seven innings. She struck out seven more batters.
Brittney Darst and Callie Cramer had two hits. Cramer and Sara Jacobs each drove in two runs.
