The Okarche High School Student Council’s Week of Love (AWOL) fundraising week-long fundraising event begins Monday with a full week of activities and events to honor one of Okarche’s biggest and most enthusiastic fans along with the Center of Family Love.
This year, David Inge, who has attended Okarche functions for over 30 year will be honored along with Okarche’s Center of Family Love where Inge is a resident.
The event is sponsored and produced by the Okarche High School Student Council (STUCO). Rachel McDowell is President of the STUCO and Tasha Reherman serves as the group’s sponsor. The students have set a goal this year to raise $13,000 during the week.
One of pieces in the fundraising effort is the sale of Commemorative AWOL shirts. Orders for the shirts ends Friday Shirts in Adult sizes Small to Extra Large are $25 and 2XL are $27. Kid sizes Small to Extra Large are $20. An order form can be found by scrolling down on the Okarche Public Schools Facebook page.
The STUCO have cooked up numerous fun ways the students and the entire community can participate in the effort.
Each day of next week is a different themed dress up day. The dress up days are based on Inge’s likes and interests. Also, students each day can purchase early lunch and hat stickers for $5.
Students can dress as their favorite singer on Monday. It is also Donut Monday and donuts and orange juice is for sale for $3 in the high school commons. Tuesday’s dress up theme is Beach Bum vs Eskimo. Donuts and orange juice are again for sale in the commons.
Wednesday is Wild West Dress Up day and Bake Sale will be held in the Commons during lunch. Thursday dress “Through the Decades,” where students are encouraged to dress in styles of the decades of the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, or 10’s. Another Bake Sale is set that day in the commons during lunch. Friday’s Dress Up day is “Biggest Fan Friday” where students are encouraged to deck themselves in purple and gold.
Also Friday, students can purchase Early lunch/hat stickers for $10 and the early release lunch is at 11:55 a.m. Friday evening the OHS basketball game begins at 6:30 p.m. and Inge will deliver the game ball. At halftime of the girl’s game the cheerleaders will perform and there will be an AWOL Week presentation. The total raised so far for the fundraising effort will also be announced at the game and “Pie In the Face” jars will be available so people can donate by placing money in the jar to see their favorite teacher get a pie in the face on the next Monday.
The elementary teacher with the most money in their jar will get a pie in the face at 8 a.m., and the high school teacher with the most cash in their jar gets a pie facial at 10:55 a.m.
