The Okarche Lady Warriors used full-court pressure, steading shooting from the field and free throws to seal the Class A Regional Tournament championship Tuesday night.
Okarche defeated Woodland for the title 45-34. The team moved to 15-5 on the season.
Full-court pressure proved to be tough for Woodland early in the game and through the first half as the Lady Warriors kept a narrow two-point lead toward the end of the second quarter. The Lady Warriors were getting into a bit of foul trouble in the first half.
Okarche led 33-25 at the end of three quarters. The Lady Warriors led 29-18 at half-time. The Lady Warriors led by eight points at the end of three quarters.
Sage Griswold hit a trey with about 5:20 seconds to go in the second quarter to give Okarche a five point lead.
The offensive attack was slowed by turnovers, but the Lady Warriors continued to pressure Woodland into turnovers with the full-court press. Madison Owens picked up her third foul in the first half.
Woodland had 10 turnovers in the first half.
Sage Griswold hit her second trey of the game to extend the Lady Warriors lead to 26-18. Ryen Wittrock added another trey before halftime.
The Lady Warriors kept the pressure up in the second half and pulled to a 10 point lead after forcing turnovers. The score was 32-23 in Okarche’s favor with about 3 minutes left in the third quarter.
Okarche will play Seiling Friday night in the Area Tournament.
