Skeeter the Clown can balance a peacock feather on her hands, her fingers and on the chin of her chinny chin chin too.

The clown popped into the Okarche Elementary School gymnasium Tuesday to promote the Friday, Sept. 29 Culpepper & Merriweather Circus sponsored by the Okarche Lions Club and the Okarche Knights of Columbus and Krittenbrink Pharmacy.

Skeeter showed students Kendon Kremeier and Natalie Rother how to balance a peacock feather too. It just takes moving around a bit with the feather, Skeeter explained.

Doug Wittrock, vice-president at Community National Bank announced that every student would get a free ticket to the circus.

The shows will be at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 211 W. Missouri in Okarche.

Skeeter the Clown visited Holy Trinity Catholic School Tuesday, Sept. 19, right after her performance at Okarche Elementary School. All of the Holy Trinity students received free circus tickets too.

Wittrock said bringing the circus to town is not a fundraiser for the local civic groups. The Okarche Lions Club hosts a German sausage festival Oct. 13 this year.

The circus is a way to show appreciation to the community, Wittrock said.

“This is more of a thank you to the town,” Wittrock said. The groups hope to break even with the circus.

“It’s a thank you for attending our German Festival that the Lions Club puts on and the Knights of Columbus carnival puts on and the golf tournaments,” Wittrock said.

“It’s an event that pumps the kids up and pumps the town up to get ready to buy tickets and attend the circus,” Wittrock said.
