Eugene Frederick Luber was born October 31, 1933 to parents, Fred and Regina Luber of Okarche, Oklahoma. He passed away September 21, 2023 in Wichita, KS. He was 89 years young.

My father attended St John’s Lutheran School thru 8th grade, followed by Okarche Public School graduating in 1951.  Eugene was president of the church’s Walther League and a charter member of the FFA in Okarche serving as their secretary. Following high school, Eugene attended Oklahoma A&M for 2 years and Oklahoma State University where he obtained his degree in Horticulture and Business.

Eugene married Clara B Rott April 17, 1954. They had 1 child Sherry.

Eugene worked for Scrivner Wholesale Grocery, also a landscaping company in Tulsa, Okla. Upon moving back to Okarche, he worked for the Ford dealership in Kingfisher. He drove a school bus for the Okarche Public School and later became custodian of the elementary school. In 1976, Eugene & Clara purchased Okarche Lawn & Garden. They ran that business until retiring in 2000 and moving to Divide, CO. They later relocated to Wichita, KS.

When Gene wasn’t working, he liked to take nature pictures, was an avid gardener, enjoyed traveling with his wife Clara, but was never far from his fishing pole. Eugene was happiest when he was fishing and if he couldn’t fish, then driving a school bus. He cared about his community and championed many causes he believed were worthwhile.  He was a friend to many and never met a stranger.
