It is a  nearly 50-year tradition.

And the middle of October is a good time for Deutschesfest, the name of the German dinner hosted by the Okarche Lions Club at Holy Trinity Catholic Church auditorium, Friday, Oct. 13.

More than 675 pounds of sausage has been ordered from Fisher’s Meat Market in Muenster, Texas to be served to eat at the dinner or to take home in dinner boxes.

There will be sauerkraut and potatoes, green beans, bread, cole slaw and desserts.

Guests can buy a ticket to enter a drawing for a shotgun or a rifle, $400 cash, one of two $100 German beer steins and a handmade quilt.

There will be five tickets drawn. Tickets can be purchased at the dinner for $5 per ticket or six tickets for $25.

The ticket holders for the drawing do not have to be present to win.

Okarche Lions Club members have chopped cabbage in preparation for the 49th annual Deutschesfest.

The Masopust Polka Band of Yukon will perform during the dinner.

Lions Club members support scholarships, the Center of Family Love, Camp Goddard field trip for Okarche sixth grade students, Okarche Educational Foundation, Okarche Community Fair, the Christmas Connection and community needs as presented, according to a news release.

Members Craig Charbouneau, James Inman, Richard Harlow, Dave Krittenbrink, Albert Gleichmann, Allen Schroeder, Lance Cummins, Brandon Onley, Ray Smith and Keith Greisel have worked to prepare the food.

Members of Okarche boys basketball team and the fifth and sixth grade students help serve the meal and stack tables and chairs for the event.
