SHAWNEE – Behind the stellar pitching performance of Easton Roby, the Okarche Warriors spring baseball team won their first game of the Class A state tournament Thursday at Shawnee High School.

Roby allowed just one run from the Wright City Lumberjacks as the Warriors took a 2-1 opening day victory.

The Warriors will face #1-ranked Tushka at 11 a.m. Friday.

Roby gave up just four hits in the Warrior win.

Ethan Kirby was 2-for-3 at the plate. Luke Hill had two walks at the plate.

Hill stole two of four stolen bases for the Warriors Thursday.

It was a line drive to centerfield from Jett Mueggenborg in the top of the fourth that scored Roby as the Warriors scored first. Brett Carnott hit a line drive to center, stole second base and then scored what would be the winning run in the inning.

Wright City scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Roby completed the game on the mound, earning the win with a strikeout of the last Lumberjack batter.

Tushka defeated Canute 8-1 Thursday. The finals will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Shawnee.

Wright City, 25-5, was ranked fourth in the state in Class A. Okarche 23-4, was ranked fifth before the Thursday game.
